Coredance

Are you over 50 and looking for a way to improve your posture, coordination, strength, stability and self-confidence?
Coredance combines elements from dance, clinical exercise, Pilates and yoga to stimulate the mind and body.
This method gives its practitioners an increased understanding of how they move and carry their body, while giving them greater stability, control and confidence.
As we get older our daily living activities change, altering the demands on our body. Focusing on keeping our bodies agile and strong becomes a priority. Simple activities like standing, sitting and walking can be modified to assist with our body’s maintenance.
Dance allows us the opportunity to combine controlled breathing with core muscle strength and the activation of our extremities in a positive manner. Along with these fundamental physical benefits are:
• stability and posture
• improved balance and co-ordination
• improved bone density and osteoporosis prevention
• improved cardio capacity
• improved muscular strength and endurance
• improved range of movement
• mental health (agility, memory and self esteem and confidence)
• enjoyment of music
• fun and friendship
Let the endorphins kick in and enjoy a healthy pastime!

John Clarke BA Hons A.I.S.T.D. – Director. Jazz/Tap/Musical Theatre
Still active in the Musical Theatre industry, John has just returned from the Australasian tour of Matilda where he worked as Resident Choreographer.
Aged 16, John was accepted into one of the U.K.’s most prestigious Musical Theatre schools, Laine Theatre Arts, where he undertook three years professional training. Soon after graduation, he successfully auditioned for the musical Grease, which paved the way for a career spanning 14 years in London’s West End. World famous choreographer, Arlene Philips noticed his talent in her production of Grease and went on to cast him in her German production of Starlight Express. Returning to the U.K., he successfully auditioned for the original London production of Saturday Night Fever, in which he went on to become Dance Captain. During this time, he was asked to be the assistant choreographer to the highly respected choreographer, Karen Bruce, on the arena production of Fame in Oslo, Norway and John could see an opportunity for his career to take a different direction.
When the London production of Saturday Night Fever closed, John was given the great responsibility of looking after the U.K. tour as Resident Director and Resident Choreographer. From this, he was offered the role of Resident Choreographer and Swing as part of the original cast of the Queen musical, We Will Rock You. We Will Rock You became a huge success and worldwide opportunities soon followed. Now as the Associate Choreographer of We Will Rock You, John had the opportunity to cast and stage the production in Cologne, Germany, Las Vegas, U.S.A., and Melbourne.
Under the direction of Broadway team Michael Grandage and Rob Ashford, John was asked to become the Resident Choreographer and Swing of the revised production of Evita, staged by the Really Useful Group. After a year, Evita closed its doors and R.U.G. went on to revise Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, where John was given the responsibility of being Resident Director of this, his last, West End production before emigrating to Australia.
Since arriving in Queensland, John has been incredibly fortunate to be able to share his knowledge of the industry with the future generation of dancers here in Australia. He created and taught the Certificate IV in Musical Theatre course at Brisbane’s Fame Theatre Company, as well as teaching and choreographing shows for their younger students. He was thrilled to be asked to create pieces for young dancers taking part in Creative Generations, and has choreographed for them since 2009.
In 2011, John was approached by Griffith University to help devise and tutor for their new Musical Theatre Degree course. John continues to tutor and choreograph for the course.
Rebecca Clarke Dip RBS – Director. Pilates/Classical Ballet/Xtend Barre/Kinderballet
Born in the U.K., Rebecca’s love of dance led her to full-time training at Elmhurst Ballet School at the age of 11. At 16, she went on to further her training at the prestigious Royal Ballet School where she was privileged to work with the Royal Ballet Company during her studies.
Upon graduation, Rebecca enjoyed a varied professional dance career. In both the U.K. and internationally Rebecca performed as a dancer in theatre, cabaret, T.V. shows and trade shows: Royal Caribbean Cruises, Crystal Cruise Lines, Cabaret de Monte Carlo, Lido de Paris and Disney, to name a few.
Rebecca was delighted to join the original cast of the musical Saturday Night Fever in London’s West End. It was during this time that an injury lead her back to Pilates, something she had undertaken as part of her training at the Royal Ballet School. Under the watchful eye of distinguished Pilates teacher Alan Herdman, Rebecca undertook a one year full time Pilates teacher training course. This highly regarded certificate enabled her to teach Pilates at studios across London including The Harbour Club in Chelsea and Lesley Ackland’s Body Maintenance Studio, then situated in London’s Pineapple Dance Studios.
Since arriving in Brisbane, Rebecca joined a team of physiotherapists, Pilates instructors and other complimentary health professionals at The Body Refinery, in New Farm and Teneriffe. Having taught Pilates since 2003, Rebecca has a keen interest in remedial Pilates, Pilates for the dancer’s body and, being a Mum herself, Pilates for pre and post-natal women.
